Why the 1M is the coolest car of the last 15 years!
Why the 1M is the coolest car of the last 15 years!

Now, the 1M isn’t just any BMW. No, this little terror is a proper skunkworks special. It’s the kind of car that shouldn’t even exist, but some renegades at BMW’s M Division said, “Why the hell not?” You can almost picture them, burning the midnight oil, rummaging through the parts bin like mad scientists. They cobbled together bits from the M3, slapped in an engine from a Z4, and created this unholy mash-up of greatness. It’s a car born out of passion, not boardroom meetings or focus groups.

And that’s why people absolutely love it. It’s the sort of thing car enthusiasts dream about—something that was never part of the corporate plan but was built because a few lunatics at BMW knew it had to be done. And for that, we salute them.

I’ll admit it, I’m desperate to have one of these sitting in my garage. With only 12,000 of these ever made for the entire planet, it’s a true collector’s item. But here’s the kicker, and it’s a bit heartbreaking really—because it’s so rare, fewer and fewer of them are actually being driven. They’re becoming those garage queens we all dread. The kind of car you take out for a Sunday drive only to put it straight back under a cover like it’s some kind of museum piece.

It’s a shame, really. Cars like the 1M deserve to be driven hard, flung around tracks, and enjoyed to the fullest. That’s what the mad geniuses at BMW built it for!
