Kia’s design revolution over the past decade is undeniably impressive. They’ve moved from being a budget, almost unremarkable choice to producing cars that exude style, innovation, and presence. The EV6 and EV9, in particular, have really changed perceptions of what the brand can do. It’s true that leading with design while committing fully to EVs, especially when some buyers still want hybrid or ICE options, could present challenges in markets that aren’t fully ready for a complete EV shift.

Kia has shown that thoughtful, forward-thinking design can change an entire brand image. It’s not just about making cars more efficient or adding more tech — it’s about how a car makes you feel, and Kia is nailing that emotional connection.

Toyota, on the other hand, is doing an admirable job of balancing function and form, especially with their bold hybrid lineup. And you’re right about the grill trend — too many manufacturers have taken this oversized, aggressive approach, which can feel a bit forced. Audi and Lexus have certainly been guilty of pushing it too far. As for Ford, yes, it could use some more originality, and Cadillac’s recent work is genuinely exciting.

Mike Simcoe’s influence, both at Holden and GM, could very well be why Cadillac’s design language is so striking lately. It’s refreshing to see some brands break away from the appliance-like SUVs we see everywhere.

Kia really is bringing a bit of sex appeal back to a landscape that’s been feeling a little dull!
